OpenAMP EOL for zynq7000 processors

All, OpenAMP support is coming to End Of Life on AMD-Xilinx zynq7000 platform. Few reasons to remove this support: 1) Zynq7000 is very old platform. There are newer advanced platforms that have replaced zynq7000 for most use cases. 2) Zynq7000 does not have Linux remoteproc support in upstream kernel. New platforms (Zynq Ultrascale Plus and later), have stable remoteproc support in. upstream kernel. No plans to upstream remoteproc drivers for zynq7000. 3) AMP use cases on zynq7000 is very limited and not lot of customers are using it as AMP system. 4) zynq7000 code base is not maintained very well. Removing support makes sense in such case, instead of carrying broken / untested code. Last known stable working OpenAMP demos on zynq7000 platform is available with petalinux-2023.2 release. From 2024.2 all zynq7000 AMP use case related code base will be removed. Here is WIP PR in open-amp library: https://github.com/OpenAMP/open-amp/pull/604 Thanks, Tanmay

Here is what I collected so far: * Bill/Bruce: Did you want to discuss updating Lopper demo in system reference, or was email discussion sufficient? * Tanmay: Requesting 2nd reviewer on these 2 PRs. Status of OpenAMP v2024.05 release

All, Yes I know we are deep into month 07 but I have still not released the v2024.05 OpenAMP system/demo release. (OpenAMP releases get their name from the tag of the library release.) Here is the status: Released w/o no know issues libmetal: tag v2024.05.0 open-amp: tag v2024.05.1 openamp-system-reference: tag v2024.05.0 meta-openamp: tag v2024.05.0 Released but some known issues: openamp-ci-builds: issues: [1] #4 and #5 Ready for testing by others: openamp-demo: source [2] deferred work recorded in issues: [3] sdcards: [4] docker images: tag 2024-07-22 ex: docker run -it --rm openamp/demo-lite:2024-07-22 the demo image works also I have tested the sd card images on kv260, stmp1, zcu102 hw and qemu. I have tested the docker demo-lite image on my x86 desktop and on ec2 x86 and arm64 ubuntu servers. I tested on Ubuntu 22.04 and (for arm64) on Ubuntu 24.04. Pending: * Testing of sd card images by others * Testing of docker images by others Especially anyone with an Arm based macbook * Add readme.md to openamp-demo repo * tag openamp-demo and draft release notes, attach sdcard images * push docker tag 2024-07-22 to latest * Update docs for docker demo and tag docs Testing and feedback appreciated. My current thinking is to live with the know issues recorded in openamp-ci-builds for this release and fix them before next release.
